2009 News
We have had three colt foals born this year - Matt was born in May out of Lowhouses Rebecca, Dylan in June out of Lowhouses Anna, he was quite small at birth but is doing fine now, he was her 19th foal and we have decided to retire her from breeding although she not look 23 years old. Comet was born in July out of Lummas Ebony and is a very smart foal. We will run the colts on (unless a buyer comes long), mouth them as two year olds, lightly back them as three year olds and put them on the market!
We haven't done a great lot of showing this year as Richie has done more with his standardbred horse (harness racing).
At the Spring Breed show, Lowhouses Sierra won the 3 yo filly class. We took Rebecca and Matt to the Great Yorkshire SHow and won the broodmare and foal classes. At the Summer Breed Show Rebeccas was second and Matt won the colt foal class. Rebecca was second in the best mare and two of her progeny class, with Matt and two year old Lowhouses Cilla.
We won rosettes at Appleby, Reeth and Weardale Shows but due to other commitements didn't make it to the rest of the local shows.
Ponies that we have bred have done well this year, Lowhouses Black Magic, Sonny, Minstrel and Rebel at the Nipna Stud (www.pennells.co.uk/nipna). Lowhouses Monarch in Bedfordshire and Bright Star & Chesney in Cornwall.
We have served our mares with a new stallion this year - Tarbarl Gypsy Lad who we purchased from Margaret Stonehouse, Allendale. He is a very smart traditional type of pony with conformation and has compeletely different bloodlines, so we are looking forward to seeing his progeny.
